This is my most favorite soup to make. It's tasty and it's nostalgic. I love the aroma. I love the taste. I love the memories. I love that while the base remains the same, the ingredients change every year based on what ingredients I have on hand after thanksgiving.
I started with an organic 15 lb turkey that Tim brined and slow smoked on the Big Green Egg. I used the carcass to make a stock with leftover vegies and let that slow cook all day. I did add in some vinegar to leach out the good bone minerals.
The recipe is in our family cookbook. My Mom and I put this together many years ago and my copy is well loved. The photo is from a camping trip we took in Arizona
This is the recipe! Sadly, no cabbage in this batch. I will have to get a head at the store for rewarming.
This soup is a classic and I love it. It is hard to rank with my other soups as it will always be #1 in my mind so It gets a place of its own in the top spot but not ranked.
My Soup Rankings to date:
Nana's Turkey Soup is always number 1 in my rankings so I have left it out of the ratings of all soups this year. It is in a class of its own.
